Beth is the founder and chief learning officer at PublicDecisions.com, which connects people with ideas and knowledge for enhancing the effectiveness of their stakeholder engagement work, through an array of online training courses, professional development events and other programs (some of which take place in virtual worlds such as Second Life). She is also a strategic public involvement practitioner with more than 20 years experience working with public agencies, private firms and nonprofits/NGOs on a broad variety of stakeholder processes, projects and issues. A talented university instructor with more than eight years of practice-oriented teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels, Beth's work at PublicDecisions marries a passion for skill building with an interest in enhancing individual and organizational effectiveness.
She is a Life Member of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), a member of the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation (NCDD); she also is the elected chair of the American Planning Association (APA)‘s International Division, which serves members in the U.S. and 21 countries and she is a co-founder of APA’s Public Engagement Interest Group. Beth presently is leading a multiyear, twelve-country study funded by IAP2 and the Kettering Foundation that explores the cultural context of public participation and deliberation. This data also serves as the basis for her dissertation work in public administration at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where she is a doctoral candidate. She is also a co-founder and the multi-media editor of the Public Knowledge Journal, an online student journal.
